Final Portfolio (*FINAL WORK for the year)

Please read through the steps to wrap up your Photography (or all art) Portfolio. If you created a Portfolio last semester you will just add photos to it, re-name them and share. This is the culminating activity (FINAL) of the semester. There are other projects that are available and optional if you want to add more to your blog and Portfolio.

The portfolio is due this week.
It has been a roller coaster of a year, but I have truly enjoyed seeing the photographs each of you are creating. I am so glad that the process of photography has made a positive impact with many of you.

Help with taking photos from a distance

How can you take different photos of a person you are not with directly?

Let's get creative! Talk it out with your subject!

Ask your subject to move to several locations or in different positions

to the light and angle on their face.

Ask your subject what are ways that they can tell us something more about themselves?

Ask your subject How can the current or other backgrounds help describe their current mood?

Ask your subject What about props, hair, make-up, or outfit/costume, or changed lighting?

Ask your subject if they were to cover their face for a portrait what could/would they use to say something different about themself? (like a baby, dog, bread, flowers, mask...)

Take some portrait photographs with your camera looking at the subject through the computer,

Take a screenshot (shift+command+4) with the subject in the frame of the computer,

Ask your subject to take a screenshot of their computer while you direct them in

light and pose

Direct your subject to use their phone camera to take some selfies

Share all of the original photographs with your subject as a courtesy.

Now EDIT these photographs! Get creative with editing too!

Please try NOT to use photos the subject gives you that were taken by

someone else at a different time. IF THEY INSIST then you MUST credit the photographer and also make your own edited version of the same photo by editing it.

How can I edit photographs if I do not have Lightroom or photoshop?

We have been and are still using Google Photos and in that program we have a variety of editing options. See below....

Grades are updated- PLEASE READ!

I am so excited to see the Interviews and Portrait photos as they are turned in!
The teachers have been so happy to be interviewed by and connect with their students as well.
PLEASE edit the interview!! Most interviews are thorough and will need like parts arranged together and will need some of it cut out. Please use the assignment in GClassroom for editing your Interview and the handful of photos of your subject. Please copy and paste your interview and at least 5 photos into this document. See example. Edit your best photos in G. Photos- adjust composition, color and value. Put both photos and the interview into no more than 2 slides. Please pay close attention to the use of text and make the interview easy to read because the size is not tiny and the contrast is easy on the eyes.
If you are all caught up there will be no 0 (zero) marks in Synergy!
If you need to complete something but are unclear how to do it now, please see this document.

NOW polish up your Interview, submit it in G.Classroom and then put it together with your images into a slide. Please make certain that your interview has been edited first! No more than 2 slides per person interviewed. See the example I created from my interview with Ms. Abens below!

Interview with LHS Staff/Faculty

The interviews on G.Classroom are a great start! Make sure that you take more than a handful of images and get creative for HOW you capture images of them so that you will have options. See the example interview and the example edited interview and the final result of my interview with Ms. Abens is HERE and on G. Classroom. We will be showing these "slides" so they can be put together. File ---> Download ---> as a PNG image.
I am excited, the response from the folks at Lincoln is great!

Let's talk about Portraits!!!

So many AWESOME Portraits have been taken and with many different ideas!
In the beginning of March we began talking about PORTRAITS.
When we left each other on March 13th, 2020 things were unknown, but we were going to take 100 portraits by the end of Spring Break. It has been a couple of weeks later and now its time to show what you've got! What did you try? Upload your photos to Google Photos. Take screen shots of your best 100. On G.Classroom place the images of the screen shots of the 100 portraits into the document provided. On Thursday 4/16 and Friday 4/17 we will look at what you've got. Those of you who have already added the images, start to choose the 20 best images.

Shooting Portraits Checklist

Try different framing: wide shot, full body, Knees-up, Waist-up, head and shoulders, close-up face, rule of thirds, centered, etc.
Try different angles: Straight-on, ¾ view, Profile, back of head, Level, High-angle, low-angle, etc.
Try different backgrounds and foregrounds: All black, All white, scenery, props, etc.
Try different poses or gestures: facial expressions, actions, hand gestures, not looking at

the camera, etc.

Try different light sources: direct sun, indirect sun, indoor, window, lamp/spotlight, candle,

flashlight, harsh, soft, colored lights, string lights, flash, etc.

Try different lighting angles: top, bottom, side, behind, or a combination of multiple light

sources at different angles.

Try different creative controls: frozen/blurred motion, shallow/deep depth of field, etc.

Extended School Closure and What you can DO!

Hello Dear Students and your families!

The number one priority is to take care of yourself and your loved ones in these unusual times. I want to let you know what I will be doing about grades, projects, etc. for our classes.

There was a request to PPS IT to allow students use their PPS login to access the Adobe Creative Suite at home.
All projects will be assigned through our class blog and Google Classroom and listed in Synergy! all students need to post their projects on your own blog site or as the assignment dictates.
Grades should be updated in Synergy!, but PLEASE email me if there is an assignment you have finished and posted and want me to see and update in your grade. Do look if there is a comment from me, sometimes I DO see your post and perhaps it is missing something...?
If there was an assignment that you did not complete and were using Photoshop or Lightroom and can not complete it, DO the other assignments that have not yet been graded and post those to your blog.
